Dan Days insight into the StreetFighter Mustang GT
The CI Performance Parts SA Time Attack, at The Bend Motorsport Park was the KPM/StreetFighter Mustangs first shakedown both on track, and with the supercharged package fitted. Local young-gun driver Dan Day, who also pilots the SJ1000 and races in the Porsche GT3 cup, was the driver of the Mustang, and loved the setup.
To help us better set up the car for future events, we asked Dan for some feedback. This is what Dan thought of the StreetFighter Mustang out on the track;
“After my first session in the StreetFighter Mustang I was very impressed with the overall balance of the car, and this was straight after driving my first session in the SJ1000. The balance of power, braking and cornering made this car fast yet easy to drive at speed. The engine power delivery was strong yet controllable with the SF750 package, even with all driver aids off. This combined with the crisp shifts on the paddles gave confidence that I had full control under my right foot (not like a lot of modern cars with minds of their own), plus the sound under my helmet made me second guess if I was in a V8 Supercar!
Reaching speeds of 250kmh down the front straight of The Bend’s International circuit meant the braking performance had to be as confidence filling as the power, and it was to my surprise. The GT350R brake package pulled the Mustang up with ease and with my previous experience in racing, braking has been one of the most important dynamics of a car in relation to lap times. After 7-8 laps I still couldn’t get the brakes to fade in the 1750kg beast, which I was very impressed with.
Now with solid braking confidence under me, I could push the lateral grip through The Bend’s long corners. Yet again the Mustang didn’t fail to impress, the front to rear balance was great with the Bilstien coil over kit combined with the H&R sway bars. Whether it was a 90 degree 2nd gear corner or a 5th gear bend the Mustang felt like it was on rails!
All up this package was fast yet controllable. With these few (bolt on) parts your Mustang can transform into a track ready weapon, retaining all the comforts of the Mustang road car.”
With Dans feedback, and how the car performed on the day, we are now making plans to further improve on the Mustang for track work. Keep an eye on our social media and website for more coverage of the KPM Motorsport and StreetFighter Mustang out on track.
